Adobe Acrobat DC

We will be upgrading Adobe Acrobat Pro to Adobe Acrobat DC.  The new version will appear on your workstation beginning Monday, February 26.  There are some notable changes between Acrobat Pro and Acrobat DC.  To help get you started, we have posted an article on our Knowledge Base at

Skype Phone Rollout and Training

The Office of the CIO is currently working with all departments across campus to upgrade all phones to Skype VOIP phone systems.  The Office of Research upgrade is scheduled to begin in February.  Throughout the month of February, we will be contacting each group regarding their upgrade and training options.

The Office of Research (OR) Information Systems group will be conducting system upgrades starting at 6 p.m. on Friday (1/5) and ending Saturday (1/6) at noon. New PI Portal to launch October 2

On Monday (10/2) the Office of Research will launch a redesigned PI Portal. Improvements to the PI Portal are based on feedback from portal users from across the university. The new PI Portal features a robust search engine and a responsive and intuitive design, making it easier to view project-related financial information. To ease the transition, the current PI Portal will remain active through December 31 and in-person training will be available at several locations across campus.

BuckeyePass Requirements for OR Staff

Beginning July 31st, Office of Research staff will be required to use BuckeyePass for all OR applications including PI Portal, e-PA005, Buck-IRB, e-Protocol and more.

BuckeyePass is a multi-factor authentication service that provides a second layer of security to your Ohio State account.  You currently use it when logging into the OR VPN, the Human Resources Employee Self Service website, and PeopleSoft.

If you do not currently login to these applications and have not used BuckeyePass, you will need to register your account.  Information and instructions on registering your account for BuckeyePass can be found at .

Message from the OCIO:

There is planned maintenance this weekend for the Financials System that will require downtime for eRequest, eTravel, eReports/Data Warehouse and Wexner Medical Center's eMaterials (eMat) services. You may have seen this shared in NewsLink, onCampus Today or the System Status page.

OCIO technicians will be performing maintenance on the Financials System from 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 until midnight EST on Sunday, May 21 which will affect eRequest, eTravel and eReports. Those services will be unavailable during the maintenance period. Wexner Medical Center's eMaterials (eMat) service will also be unavailable during the same maintenance window.

Windows 10

Beginning February 6th, Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) will begin installing Windows 10 and Office 2016 on OR workstations.  The machines in the 1st floor computer lab were upgraded January 30th and conference room machines will be upgraded February 2nd.  For those new to Windows 10, ORIS will have Lunch & Learn demos before and during deployment. 

ORIS is going to upgrade machines by floor.  Approximately one week before your floor is scheduled, you will receive an email with registration details.  Please plan to have 30 minutes of downtime while your machine is upgraded.

Network Access for 1960 Kenny Rd.

ORIS is making a server change this weekend which will require you to reboot your computer in order to connect to the network.  We recommend everyone located at 1960 Kenny Road turn off your workstation before leaving the office this Friday, January 13.  If you do not turn your PC off over the weekend, you will need to reboot your machine when you return to the office next week.  Otherwise you will not have network access.

Conference Room 113 upgrade planning

On Wednesday, December 7th, Epson will be onsite to demonstrate smartboard projectors. We will be setting up the projector on the long wall to evaluate visibility from the sides and to determine if two projectors would better serve the space.

If you are interested in seeing the projector or would like to provide feedback on the room configuration, please stop by room 113 between noon and 1pm on December 7th.

In addition, we would also like to hear from anyone who is still using the VCR/DVD players in any OR conference room. If you still have a need for these features, please contact Dan Caldwell at or 614-688-4697 so we can determine how best to provide video support in the future.
