1. TECH AND ACCESS

Do you have the tools and technology you need to work from home?

2. PLAN AHEAD

If there is a possibility you will need to work from home, be sure to bring your laptop, charger and essential materials home after work.

3. KNOW YOUR TOOLS

Make sure you know how to access your network and necessary systems. We’ve collected information on accessing some key services.

4. PRACTICE

If you don’t traditionally work from home, try accessing your key systems and materials as soon as possible in order to ensure a smooth transition if you need to do so.

5. COMMUNICATE

Make sure that your team and colleagues know how to contact you.

  • Talk to your manager: Make sure your manager and colleagues know what you are working on.
  • Auto Responses: Consider an automated response on your email such as: “Thank you for your patience if my response is delayed. I am working at home to promote a healthy work environment and will respond as soon as possible.”
  • Phone Number Forwarding: Have your university phone number forwarded to your mobile device.
  • Use Teams: Create Teams collaboration groups as needed.

6. SECURITY BEST PRACTICES

Continue to employ the security best practices from the office as you work from home. Situations like this are prime phishing opportunities for bad actors. Remain vigilant for security concerns and be sure to report suspicious emails to report-phish@osu.edu.

7. PRIORITIZE WORK

Talk with your manager and colleagues to determine what is the most important work to complete during your time working from home.

8. UPDATE YOUR MEETINGS

Look through your calendar and add call-in, Zoom or Skype access to meetings.

9. KNOW YOUR BACKUPS

If you or a family member are sick or unavailable, know to whom you can hand off essential work.

10. CONTACT THE HELP DESK

If you have trouble connecting to university systems or services, contact the help desk for support.
